Laura McGowan, Founder & Principal
A life-long storyteller and relationship-builder, Laura McGowan hit the jackpot when she realized that public relations was actually a real job. With more than two decades of experience as a PR practitioner, Laura brings a unique knowledge of faith-related organizations and audiences to her role as founder and principal of Laura McGowan Communications.
Since founding Laura McGowan Communications in 2003, Laura has provided public relations and media relations expertise to organizations like Harvest Crusades with Greg Laurie, National Christian Foundation, The Willow Creek Association’s National Leadership Summit, Lead Like Jesus (Ken Blanchard), MOPS International (Mothers of Preschoolers), and Wheaton College. Laura’s philosophy that “news makes news” has helped her successfully craft messages for her clients that have garnered media coverage in The New York Times, Associated Press, CNN, Larry King Live, FOX News, the Los Angeles Times, Good Day, L.A., the Huffington Post, and many others.
Laura previously co-founded a literary publicity firm called Forrester McGowan, successfully launching a number of best-selling books for notable authors in the spiritual growth, business and leadership, and practical living categories. Her passion for literary publicity continues as book launches remain a staple of her work at Laura McGowan Communications.
Laura began her career as a PR practitioner at men’s ministry Promise Keepers, serving as the media coordinator for more than 40 stadium events across the U.S., where she worked with Coach Bill McCartney and other national speakers. She went on to spend five years at Atlanta-based PR firm, the DeMoss Group, where she developed and managed a wide range of projects, from establishing a media credentialing system that served more than 1,200 media outlets at Promise Keepers’ Stand in the Gap event on the Washington Mall, to overseeing the operation of an international media center for the Billy Graham Association’s Amsterdam 2000 event.
In addition to working on all things PR, Laura serves on the board of directors for Christian Heritage Academy in Northfield, Ill. She resides in the Chicagoland area with her husband and two children.
